Istria
IstriaWhen it comes to tourist destinations in Croatia, Istria as the westernmost county is at the very top by its variety of offer, quality, proximity and accessibility to European guests in terms of traffic connections. From Savudrija in the north of the peninsula to Medulin and Premantura in the very south, with rural tourism in the interior, Istria offers a variety of offer that can cater to the needs of almost every guest. There are 263,000 accommodation units at disposal. Its 445 kilometer-long coastline of coves, capes and islets still boasts of its clean sea and preserved forests of pine and holm oak. Despite everything Istria has managed to preserve its original identity with medieval towns, fishing villages and untouched rural areas. Revived old and new olive groves, as well as numerous vineyards are proof that Istria offers excellent wine and even better olive oil. You can taste all this on the wine roads and olive oil routes of Istria. For activity holidays Istria offers an entire network of bike trails, interesting destinations for free climbing, hiking and mountaineering on the slopes of Mt. Učka, while numerous diving clubs will help you plunge into the blue. The very south of Istria is well known for windsurfing because there's always some wind. For those who prefer a holiday away from tourist resorts, we recommend villas that are part of the rural tourism offer of the so-called green Istria. The largest city of the Istrian peninsula is Pula, city with a rich cultural and historic heritage. It is also a must-see for all tourists. The exceptionally preserved Arena – Vespasian's amphitheater has 400,000 visitors every year. There is a wide range of summer programs in the amphitheater; starting already in May with the popular gladiator fights. It is followed by the program of classical music concerts, operas and ballet, jazz concerts, world music, Croatian folklore ensemble Lado and festival of Croatian harmony singing groups. Other sights worth seeing in Pula are the Temple of Augustus, Venetian fortress at Kaštel hill with a magnificent view of the surroundings and medieval historic core. Pula's tourist offer is separated from its swarming streets. Its hotels, tourist villages and high category campsite are situated at Verudela and Stoja peninsulas. Map
